So.. I know what you guys are thinking, how could i possibly just narrow it down to five, right? I don't know myself really, but if i could, this blog would go on forever LOL! there will be a part two to this blog, so also watch out for that one. In this blog, i break down my reasonings for each film being in my top 5, and as always it's going to be an emotional, passionate dissection of my top 5 favourite disney movies that impacted my life and why, but by no means does that mean that our opinions will be the same, i just wanted to share my personal ones, so here we gooooo!!
1. ALICE IN WONDERLAND. (1951)

Now, if anybody reading this knows me personally, you will know i am uncontrollably obsessed with Alice, and everything about wonderland.
I love the way the film starts from a mundane place in Alice's life, where she dreams of something more, and that something more is out there. By following the peculiar she finds herself in a world where everything and anything doesn't just teach her a lesson about herself, but also reflects her one life. she embarks on such a journey, that the story to me represents one of self discovery and the mysteries of life in general. The film is full of charm, whit and whimsicality that has a way of staying with you- well, in this case me.I have and always will have a soft spot for Alice, i think the film holds characters that represent a part of both her personality and aspects of her life. The term 'mad' is used quite a bit and was made quite famous after this movie came out in the fifties. as i grew up and watched this movie over and over again, i also got a different perspective on mental health through watching the mad hatter, and i had more of an understanding about how what another's reality might be, doesn't always match up to ours.

2. THE LION KING (1994)

OK, so you knew this one was coming right? lol The lion king is one of my favourite films, and no doubt makes me cry every single time i watch it! it's the life quotes, the lessons, the songs and the characters that i believe has made this film what it is over the years, but there are many other factors to this film that have made huge impacts in peoples live all over the world, and i am about to explain some of the aspects that have impacted mine from the film. The first, being Simba's relationship with his father, Mufasa. The relationship between this father and son, was on with so much depth. It had integrity, and true love, and i believe thats what made me forget they were even lions, i truly felt i was a part of the great circle of life because in those first couple of scenes between Simba and his dad, my universal connection with love, was introduced in this movie. Second, it was the unshakable sense of community! the animals, who all share the land they live on, know that one day, (maybe the next) they will end up as food, and then there bones will turn to dust, and so the circle of life continues. This theory alone, is enough to make me cry. The next point that i thought was put across in an extraordinary way, was the fact that even the closest people to us don't always have our best interest at heart. From a child's perspective, it didn't take much to understand that even our own families can have bad intentions, and that even though the world could be a scary and challenging place at at times, when you stop running from who you are life has a way of pulling itself back together for you. I love the the aspect of everything of the earth being first and foremost spirit. I love that the main character (Simba) doesn't face up to his reality straight away, he runs from it, which a lot of us, even as adults can say we have done at some point in our own lives. I think it's safe to say that by the end of the movie, we learn all the valuable lessons about life and about love and truly standing up for what is right and finding the strength, no matter what to always follow the path designed for us.

3.BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (1991)

I wasn't even born when this movie came out, but it still means more to me now, than ever and i'm 22 years of age. At the start of the movie, we are shown the consequence of being ignorant and unkind, and that in life being a douchebag can come back and bite you in the behind.
I love the fact that Belle was one of the first princesses that loved to read, and was all about gaining more knowledge and genuinely wanting more than what she grew up around for herself. Finding a man wasn't the number one thing to do on the list. As a girl, watching her be selfless and trade her own life for her fathers showed me all about the importance of being selfless. What i love the most about the story, is it shows all the layers that love has. It shows the unexpected side, the scary side, the friendly side, the selfless side, and the side of love that makes us really stare at ourselves in the mirror. We go on this journey as both main characters find out about each other and themselves. Love can be born from the most unexpected and unlikely friendships. The rest of the loved characters in the film cast under the spell also, make me feel at home and remind me that even though they have been unfairly victimised by the curse upon the castle, it doesn't turn them into bitter people (well furniture in the case of the movie) but in fact, it does the opposite. in this film again, we are shown that of course, in our lives just like the movie, we can often get shunned for being different, much like Belle's father Maurice. We come across the pompous, arrogant and ignorant villainous characters such as Gaston, and we learn that evil can put up a great fight, but can never really win against love.
Love is a very magical thing, and change and transform us in more ways than one. In this movie, it humbles not only someone with a beasts appearance, but also a beasts mentality, and thats whats so beautiful about the message of this movie. Love, is the thing that is found at the very core of all of us, and true love goes much much further than just face value alone.Love is whats found in the minds eye.
And when love can be found beyond the shape of a face but the shape of a heart, thats where the magic really begins, and life curses can be lifted.

4. TOY STORY (1995-2010)

Now, i'm not just talking about the first movie (which of course was brilliant) and opened up a whole new world for children around the globe about what their toys were up to while they were eating dinner downstairs or while they were at school, but there was something about this series of films that touched our hearts in a way that only disney and pixar could do together. Over the years we have been able to grow with Andy and when it was time for him to go off to college, i shed a tear, or two ( maybe three or 100) lol but everyone watching what was transpiring on screen could relate to it in some way, because we can all relate to having to put our childhoods away and move forward into the future of who we need to become. Something i learnt from these movies, was sheer loyalty! to each other and of course, always to Andy, when you were watching, you knew it was much more than just a toy and owner relationship, to me i think the toys represented childhood, they represented a part of ourselves that of course longs to hold on to us, and we long to hold on to it. The relationship between Woody and the gang themselves, was enough to teach you all about the meaning of family, sacrifice and the value of sticking together. Each character has their own set of qualities that match up with parts of our own personalities. By the last movie (2009) i found myself scamming through my own childhood memories and feeling quite melancholy about the whole thing. At some point after watching these movies, we aspired to be like the gang. We wanted to be strong, brave and heroic. Overall, i felt empowered to want to do the right hing for the people i loved too. Full of adventure, family, fun and excitement again the core of the movie comes down to love. love of self, and love of others. Its about the importance and relevance of the simple things in life that in this time and age we forget to hold dear to us sometimes. Friendship and love are the key things that drive all the relationships we have in life.

5. UP (2009)

Now, last but certainly not least, Up. Up.. up..up.. Ahhh
This film blew my mind in so many ways, and every time i watch it i wonder if it's creation was more for adults than it was for children, because after watching it i learnt more about life, love and myself than i was expecting too. First of all, mentioning this film would be nothing without me first and foremost talking about the incredible montage scene of Ellie and Carl. In short, it was life summed up! happiness, pain, disappointment, friendship, love, laughter, living, dying. It is everything we are as spirit and as human beings. At the start of the movie where we see these two people become friends and then go on to fall in love, i instantly became invested! and even though it seemed to go so quickly in that sequence, i felt like i had just seen a montage of everything i want in life, in a partnership, and then it was gone, and i was left devastated. It's hard to pick up a very real and humane emotion such a mourning, even when it's real people acting it out, so i have no idea how i felt it and saw it so vividly from Carl in this movie. My heart was tugged at constantly whenever i saw that look in his well thought out eyes. The dream that he and Ellie always had to get to Paradise Falls, was everything this movie needed and more to drive the emotional suspense. It again, showed me that sometimes the people we look up to the most, aren't always what we think they'll be, and that the most unexpected of people can become our best friends, if we are only open to others. Being different isn't a bad thing at all. Individuality doesn't go a miss here, especially with Russell! he is adorable! and i love that he just has this beautiful outlook on life, and it is honestly just going with the flow. He is exactly what Carl needs to be the drive to Paradise Falls and break through his stubbornness and pain.
Overal, if you've ever lost anyone you love you know how painful that is and can be for a very long while, but thats why this film, in my opinion is perfect because it doesn't sugar coat life just because its Disney! no! it shows us that life happens, its inevitable, but how we choose to live is up to us and we must make it count while we are here. follow your dreams! no matter what, it is never too late- don't regret it.
